Preparing the leaders of tomorrow: Become a Volunteer

Community Impact

There are over 16 educational programs available for Detroit youth at the Horatio Williams Foundation

For more than two decades, we have been dedicated to shaping the leaders of the future by mentoring, educating, and empowering young people for success. Through our programs and sports-centered events, we cultivate teamwork, responsibility, and a strong sense of purpose in the children of our community. Our unwavering commitment to their growth inspires us daily, allowing us to make a meaningful and positive impact on the lives of those we serve.

Being a part of HWF has taught me to think about impact beyond the four corners of my neighborhood. Seeing how the foundation brings people together from all over the state, and even the country, is nothing short of remarkable. The statewide basketball tournaments are always a great time. Getting to see matchups you'd normally have to wait for the state playoffs to watch - but early in the season - is what makes HWF stand out!

Through SLL and the Horriatio Williams  Foundation she has gained the confidence to present information, build relationships amongst her peers, learn how to sew, and learn chess skills. It was through the Horriatio Williams Foundation she was introduced to speaking Japanese, she now enjoys yoga, and understands the importance of community outreach. She enjoys attending every Saturday.

Impact Through Education

New CNA Program

We are excited about our first class of women to receive their CNA Certificates through the new Horatio Williams Foundation CNA Program. These women took advantage of our free program and have reinvented themselves for the better. Our programs wouldn't be possible without our incredible sponsors and donors. We're so excited for these women and look forward to the next class.

Reading & Writing

Our Reading and Writing classes teach elementary age students the basics of reading comprehension. We want to make sure all our youth are literate so they can succeed in school and beyond.

Reading Comprehension is one of the many educational programs that are provided by the Horatio Williams Foundation

Chess

Chess teaches kids critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills, and it's fun! Our chess instructor has been teaching in our community for over 30 years and we're blessed to have him here at HWF to teach our kids.
